Endoscopy uses tubing and a diagnostic scope with a magnifier, to look inside your pet by entering through existing orifices - their mouth, nose and anus.

The scope contains a fibreoptic light source and a camera. Everything the camera 'sees' is projected onto the monitor for us to see. This means we can see into the respiratory or gastrointestinal system.

Advantages of Endscopy

Endoscopy has revolutionized pet care by enabling the removal of foreign objects or materials from within your pet using the grasping fingers of the scope. In the past this required abdomenal surgery, which is more extensive and intensive for the pet.

As a diagnostic tool the endoscope enables us to biopsy internal linings of the stomach and intestines - without doing any abdominal surgery.endoscopy-by-north-vancouver-care-pet-wellness-vet

Vets can also check a pet's airway function as well as flush lower small airways to collect fluid samples of cells to help diagnose airway diseases.

What Can I Expect for My Pet?

Your pet will be anesthetized for this procedure, to keep them comfortable and to prevent them from making sudden movements.
